The New York Giants have agreed to acquire quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft selection, pending a physical examination.
The transaction comes as New York seeks to stabilize its quarterback room following a season-ending injury to Jaxson Dart. McCarthy struggled to establish himself during his tenure with Minnesota, which was hampered by multiple injuries that limited him to just 10 starts over more than two seasons.
He subsequently fell to third on the Vikings depth chart behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.
Prior to this trade, the Giants deployed Jameis Winston during a Week 3 contest against the Tennessee Titans, where the offense relied entirely on field goals in a narrow 12-7 victory. With the addition of McCarthy, New York becomes one of only seven franchises in the common draft era to currently feature three former first-round quarterbacks on its roster, alongside Dart and Winston.
