Nineteen-year-old British cyclist Matthew Peace made an impressive debut for the Visma-Lease a Bike development squad at Le Tour de Langkawi. Despite receiving a last-minute call-up just two days before his team departed, the teenager successfully navigated the challenging tropical heat and humidity to finish 19th overall, securing his place as the youngest rider in the top 20.
Peace was originally tasked with supporting teammate Mattia Gaffuri, but he stepped up after the Italian rider suffered from illness and a crash that resulted in a broken hand. Throughout the race, Peace achieved notable individual results, including 22nd on stage 2, 13th at Cameron Highlands, and 21st at Genting Highlands.
His performance also allowed him to surpass the 42nd-place finish his brother, Oliver Peace, recorded at the same event in 2025. Sports director Melvin Rulliere expressed satisfaction with the young rider's adaptability and potential during his first appearance at the ProTour level.
