Caitlin Clark’s supporters have strongly pushed back against the idea of retaining Stephanie White as the Indiana Fever’s head coach for another season, following a mixed two-year tenure. White’s first year saw Clark play just 13 games due to injuries, yet the Fever still advanced to the playoffs, reaching the second round before losing to the Las Vegas Aces.
Her second season, however, saw the team finish sixth in the standings and bow out in the first round to Las Vegas again, despite a healthier roster. Critics argue White failed to maximize Clark’s strengths or implement a cohesive defensive strategy, while podcaster Sophia Jones defended White’s progress, citing her defensive expertise and the time needed to adjust to an unfamiliar roster.
Fans, however, favored a return to Christie Sides, White’s predecessor, over giving her another chance. Meanwhile, basketball analyst Sophie Cunningham criticized White’s inconsistent offensive schemes, noting the Fever abandoned successful plays in their season-ending loss to Las Vegas.
