Mumbai off-spinner Tanush Kotian, added to India’s Test squad in December 2024 following Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, remains on the fringes of the national team nearly two years later. Despite missing his Test debut, Kotian has focused on refining his skills, working closely with former India spinner Sunil Joshi at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and Mumbai batter Jatin Paranjape.
His recent performances in domestic cricket highlight his progress, including a standout Duleep Trophy quarter-final against North Zone, where he took 8 wickets (4/72 and 4/46) with improved variations and crease movement, including a rare new-ball arm ball. With 146 first-class wickets at an average of 27.19 since his 2018 debut, Kotian has also contributed with the bat, scoring a half-century and century in the Irani Cup and helping SMAT to victory with an economy rate of 7.44 in a high-scoring tournament two years ago.
Though his IPL experience is limited to a single 2024 match for Rajasthan Royals and an unsold status at the 2025 auction, Kotian’s technical evolution—adapting his bowling to right- and left-handed batters—suggests he is ready for international challenges after years of domestic development.
