Jack Nicklaus recently reflected on an unforgettable moment from his victory at the 1975 PGA Championship in his home state of Ohio. During the third round at Firestone Country Club, ABC broadcaster Bob Rosburg declared Nicklaus completely finished after the legendary golfer hit his ball into a difficult spot near a massive maple tree and water on the sixteenth hole.
Instead of playing safely, Nicklaus used a nine-iron to send the ball cleanly over the thirty-foot tree and onto the green before sinking a long putt for par. That bold recovery helped propel him past Bruce Crampton, who had initially led the tournament before struggling on Saturday, allowing Nicklaus to claim his fourteenth major title.
