Veteran batter Hanuma Vihari has pointed out that Sanju Samson faces mounting selection pressure following a low-scoring run during India's gold-medal campaign at the Asian Games 2026. Speaking ahead of the opening match of the five-match T20 International series against the West Indies, Vihari highlighted that Samson managed just nine runs across two matches, contrasting his performance with the strong knocks from teammates like Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and others.
With competition heating up for the opening slot alongside Abhishek, Vihari suggested that team management should utilize a rotation policy to give consistent opportunities to emerging talent such as Vaibhav Suryavanshi during the upcoming matches against the West Indies and New Zealand. The series opener is scheduled to take place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
