'Draining' few days for Gauff after online racist abuse

Coco Gauff has spoken out about the emotional toll of receiving a barrage of racist messages online following a controversial point in her China Open victory against Sun Xinran. The American player, who previously secured the Beijing title, noted that the situation left her feeling exhausted before her subsequent defeat to Elise Mertens.

The WTA has condemned the harassment and is actively working to address the abusive behavior directed at the athlete. Gauff ultimately exited the tournament after a performance marked by numerous unforced errors and double faults.

In other tournament action, Elise Mertens is set to face Iga Swiatek, who advanced by defeating Iva Jovic.
