Georgia head coach Kirby Smart expressed frustration regarding spectator conduct after his team secured a 20-17 victory over Alabama. Video footage captured an opposing supporter reaching past a barrier to strike linebacker Raylen Wilson on the helmet near the sideline following the narrow defeat in New Orleans.
Wilson maintained his composure during the incident, which Smart noted was aided by the player initially believing a friendly supporter was congratulating him amid a crowd of 100,077 attendees. Smart condemned the physical contact as unacceptable behavior that cannot be tolerated while noting that athletic programs remain largely powerless to manage aggressive actions from individuals seated directly adjacent to the team area.
