Chiefs' Travis Kelce admits he got away with obvious penalty on key play during Week 1 win over Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce acknowledged on his New Heights podcast that game officials failed to call an obvious holding infraction on him during the team's 31-10 victory against the Denver Broncos in Week 1. The unpenalized action happened on Patrick Mahomes' 15-yard touchdown scramble on second-and-goal, where Kelce grabbed Broncos defender Talanoa Hufanga around the neck near the goal line.

Broadcast analyst Troy Aikman and rules expert Russell Yurk both pointed out during the telecast that the infraction should have drawn a penalty flag.

Kelce revealed he feared a penalty marker would wipe out the score, which handed Kansas City an initial 7-0 advantage on their first drive. An infraction would have pushed the Chiefs out of the red zone right after Mahomes had already seen a touchdown run negated on the previous snap.
