Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former coach of Carlos Alcaraz, has sparked controversy by hinting at a potential future collaboration with Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz’s biggest rival. Ferrero, who guided Alcaraz to six Grand Slam titles and multiple other trophies before their split ahead of the 2026 season, insisted in a recent interview that any move to coach Sinner would be purely professional and not aimed at undermining Alcaraz.
Despite his assurances, fans have been quick to criticize the idea, with many arguing that Ferrero’s knowledge of Alcaraz’s game could inadvertently benefit Sinner. Alcaraz, meanwhile, has continued his strong form since parting ways with Ferrero, completing his career Grand Slam at the Australian Open earlier this year and adding wins in Doha and Tokyo to his resume.
Ferrero’s comments come as Sinner’s 2026 season has been cut short due to a lingering knee injury, leaving him unable to defend his World No. 1 ranking.
This development has cleared the path for Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz’s German rival, to potentially claim the top spot for the first time. Zverev has already made significant strides this year, winning his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and following it up with another Major victory at the US Open, capitalizing on the absence or struggles of both Alcaraz and Sinner.
