Florida State’s 44-20 loss to Louisville has sparked a backlash from longtime supporters, with several high-profile boosters announcing they will no longer contribute financially or support the program. The Seminoles, led by coach Mike Norvell, fell behind early after a fourth-down decision at the 3-yard line led to a Louisville touchdown, and the Cardinals scored 35 unanswered points to seal the rout.
The loss drops Florida State to 3-3 and follows a dismal 2-10 record in 2024, despite winning the ACC title the prior season. Pro Football Network’s playoff projections now show the Seminoles with better-than-even odds in only one of their remaining six games, with a likely 5-7 finish for the year.
The defeat comes after a record-breaking fundraising year for Seminole Boosters, who raised over $106 million in pledges and $86.3 million in cash in fiscal 2026, but frustration over Norvell’s performance has led some to reconsider their support. One booster, active for 34 years, canceled his membership, while another family, involved for 50 years, vowed to stop giving if Norvell remains coach next season.
Louisville’s ground game dominated, with running back Isaac Brown rushing for 235 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard score, while Norvell’s defense struggled to contain the Cardinals’ rushing attack, allowing 397 yards on 43 carries. The loss also follows the firing of athletic director Michael Alford, who had rehired Norvell for the current season, raising further questions about the program’s direction.
