‘Better Than Caitlin Clark,’ ‘Statpadding Merchant Choked’ – WNBA Fans Divided Over Angel Reese’s Performance in Game 1 Loss vs Valkyries

Angel Reese delivered a standout two-way performance in the Atlanta Dream’s 68-64 Game 1 loss to the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA Finals, though the result sparked a heated debate among fans. Reese finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and a block—her 12th in the playoffs—while shooting 5-for-11 from the field.

Despite Atlanta’s strong third-quarter push (17-9), Golden State closed out the game with a 17-8 fourth-quarter run, sealing the victory with clutch free throws from Gabby Williams, who scored 26 points. The loss ended Atlanta’s 10-game winning streak and marked the Valkyries’ first-ever Finals win in their inaugural appearance.

Reese’s playoff scoring average of 17.3 points per game (up from 16.4 in the regular season) and her defensive impact drew praise, but critics questioned whether her stats translated to meaningful impact in the loss. Game 2 is set for October 19 at Chase Center, where the Dream will need a full team effort to avoid falling behind 0-2.
