India fast bowler Mukesh Kumar is making a strong push for a return to the national team after a two-year absence, with his recent performances in domestic cricket catching the selectors’ attention. The 32-year-old Bengal pacer, who last played for India in a four-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in 2024, has been recalled to the India A squad ahead of the New Zealand tour.
His form this season has been impressive, including a standout 12-wicket haul in the Duleep Trophy final, where East Zone secured the title, followed by eight wickets in the Irani Cup for Rest of India. Kumar, who turned 33 last week, has also played a county match for Nottinghamshire and will now represent Bengal in their Ranji Trophy opener before departing for New Zealand.
Overcoming a calf injury that limited his appearances last season, he has regained his rhythm, playing six first-class matches in under two months—a stark contrast to the three Ranji games he managed in 2025. His upright seam delivery and consistent line have been key, with the bowler emphasizing his ability to adapt across different ball brands while maintaining a disciplined approach.
With fitness and momentum on his side, Kumar is now focused on proving his consistency at the highest level once again.
