Today marks what would have been the 116th birthday of Frank Crosetti, an infielder and coach who secured an astonishing seventeen World Series championships with the New York Yankees. Raised in San Francisco as the son of Italian immigrants, Crosetti left school early to pursue semi-professional baseball before joining the Pacific Coast League team in his home city.
After arriving in New York for the 1932 campaign, he anchored the shortstop position for much of the subsequent decade and remained a fixture of the franchise's sustained success across his playing and coaching career.
