During the opening game of the American League Division Series, New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells spoiled the no-hit bid of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen with a deep hit in the eighth inning. However, Wells was tagged out at third base by Junior Caminero after attempting to stretch a double, sealing a 1-0 defeat for New York following an earlier home run by Jonathan Aranda.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Wells himself both addressed the baserunning miscue, which was compounded by a strong relay throw from right fielder Victor Mesa Jr. and cutoff man Taylor Walls.
