Granit Xhaka is facing a formal inquiry from Swiss prosecutors regarding accusations that he acquired a fraudulent vaccination document back in 2022 when such paperwork was mandatory for specific international journeys. The public prosecutor authority in Lucerne verified that checks are ongoing to establish if any criminal acts occurred.

Xhaka issued a public apology via social media, admitting that feelings of uncertainty led him to secure the paper illicitly rather than addressing his concerns properly, and he confirmed full cooperation with investigators. Following these developments, the midfielder stepped away from the upcoming international fixtures after discussions with the Swiss Football Association management.
