Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs remains in legal limbo as the NFL continues its investigation into his off-field conduct. Jacobs, who was arrested in May and charged with two misdemeanors—battery and criminal damage to property—pleaded no contest in September.
He was fined $1,000 for the battery charge and agreed to deferred judgment for the property damage, requiring 12 months of supervision, counseling, and restitution to avoid further penalties. The NFL placed Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list in late August, sidelining him from team activities pending the outcome of its probe.
A key hurdle in the league’s investigation has been access to surveillance footage of the incident, which Jacobs’ ex-girlfriend initially sought to have permanently sealed under Wisconsin’s Marsy’s Law. A judge denied that request in late September, clearing the way for the NFL to review the evidence—though no updates on the league’s decision have followed since then.
Jacobs’ status hinges on whether the NFL’s ongoing review leads to further disciplinary action, which could retroactively count against his exempt-list time.
