The AL Central rivals that split their thirteen regular-season meetings are now opening their Division Series against one another. Chicago holds a narrow advantage from their prior encounters by outscoring Cleveland by a single run overall during the year.

Opening the series on the mound, Hagen Smith takes the ball for the visiting side following a scoreless three-inning appearance as an opener in the previous round. Cleveland counters with Parker Messick, who compiled a solid two-point-eight-one earned run average across four regular-season starts against this opponent.

The opening game gets underway at one in the afternoon Eastern Time, with television and streaming coverage provided through TBS and TruTV.
