A social media controversy has erupted over claims that Indian cricket star Virat Kohli was paid ₹5 crore to visit the ashram of spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan. The allegation, made by Falahari Maharaj in a letter related to the ashram, suggests that a private company in Rajasthan allegedly funded the visit to boost Maharaj’s profile.
However, no verified evidence—such as contracts, bank records, or official statements—has surfaced to confirm the payment. Kohli and his wife, Anushka Sharma, have visited the ashram multiple times, including in January 2023 and again in 2025, with photos of their meetings going viral.
The claim resurged amid a separate controversy involving the death of Maharaj’s disciple, Rasik Dulari Sharan, who fell from a building in Vrindavan in September 2026. Police are investigating the circumstances, though the incident remains unrelated to the payment allegation.
Kohli has not publicly addressed the claims, leaving the ₹5 crore story as an unverified assertion for now.
