The Minnesota Vikings have officially moved running back Jordan Mason to injured reserve following a fractured thumb sustained during their 39-22 opening win against the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Kevin O'Connell originally termed the issue a sore thumb, but the roster move confirms Mason must now sit out a minimum of four matchups.
To address their suddenly depleted backfield, general manager Nolan Teasley brought in several free agents for workouts, notably including Jerome Ford, while Demond Claiborne represents an in-house depth alternative.
Mason is not the lone major health concern emerging from the season opener for Minnesota. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray took a severe hit in the opening quarter against Green Bay, causing him to exit the contest early and enter the league's concussion protocol.
