The Minnesota Vikings have officially placed starting running back Jordan Mason on injured reserve after he sustained a fractured thumb. The roster decision requires Mason to sit out a minimum of four contests.
Minnesota had already hosted workouts for several free-agent rushers, including Jerome Ford, while preparing for the loss, with rookie Demond Claiborne positioned as an in-house option for backfield touches.
The setback occurred during Minnesota's 39-22 season-opening victory over the Green Bay Packers, a matchup in which starting quarterback Kyler Murray also departed early in the first quarter with a concussion. Although head coach Kevin O'Connell originally termed Mason's thumb issue as minor soreness before further evaluations revealed the fracture, the team received better news on Murray, who resumed limited participation in Wednesday's practice.
