Victor Wembanyama takes strong stand against promoting sports betting

October 1, 2026

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama recently stated that he refuses to serve as a brand ambassador for gambling companies, calling the promotion of sports betting by fellow athletes unfortunate. Despite massive growth in the industry, including online gambling revenues pushing overall gaming figures to 16.96 billion dollars in 2025, the twenty-two-year-old athlete explained that financial gain will not override his personal principles.

Several high-profile athletes have maintained active partnerships within the space, such as LeBron James moving to Polymarket, Giannis Antetokounmpo taking a stake in Kalshi, and Kevin Durant collaborating with FanDuel through Boardroom.
