Veteran fast bowler Umesh Yadav has made a strong impact after joining Punjab following an eighteen-year stint with Vidarbha. The thirty-eight-year-old recently returned to first-class competition after nearly two years on the sidelines due to an Achilles tendon injury, claiming seven wickets in a match against Assam.
His wife Tanya provided vital emotional support during his prolonged rehabilitation when he contemplated whether his playing days were finished. Yadav now aims to enjoy his game without excessive pressure while mentoring younger bowlers in the squad.
Punjab head coach Uniyal noted that the addition of the veteran pacer strengthens the bowling unit, particularly with Arshdeep Singh frequently on international duty. Yadav serves as the first guest player recruited by the state association for the upcoming domestic campaign and is preparing for an upcoming fixture against Chhattisgarh.
