BYU’s dominant 24–10 win over Iowa State on Friday offers a preview of the Cougars’ offensive firepower that UCF will face when they meet in Orlando on October 24. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier led the way with a balanced performance, completing 22 of 30 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 109 yards on nine carries—nearly two-thirds of BYU’s total rushing yards.
Despite Iowa State’s defense forcing three turnovers on fourth down, the Cyclones’ offense struggled to keep pace, with quarterback Jalen Raynor managing just 98 passing yards on 16 completions and running back Aiden Flora’s 86 rushing yards not enough to offset the Cougars’ disciplined execution. BYU’s rushing attack, however, was stifled by the absence of star running back LJ Martin, who is sidelined for four to six weeks with a lower-body injury, forcing the Cougars to rely on three lesser backs who combined for just 54 yards on 17 attempts.
The Cougars, currently ranked No. 8 nationally, will next host No.
2 Notre Dame before traveling to Orlando, where their dual-threat offense will pose a significant challenge for UCF’s defense.
