Twin 99s and a best of 358: Meet the flamboyant India batter who once replaced Tendulkar but couldn’t go beyond 12 games

Amay Khurasiya initially broke into first-class cricket as a teenager during the 1989-90 season and quickly established himself as a heavy scorer for Madhya Pradesh. Across the 1990-91 and 1991-92 campaigns, he registered totals of 584 runs in 11 innings and 548 runs in 10 innings, notably posting scores of 99 and 99 not out within a single Ranji Trophy encounter against Vidarbha.

That same season, he secured the LP Jai Trophy from the BCCI for recording the tournament's fastest hundred, later reaching a personal-best mark of 358 against Vidarbha at Korba. His strong domestic form extended to India A, where he struck a century against a visiting Australian squad in 1998.

Despite earning selection in India's preliminary squad for the 1999 World Cup before his international debut, Khurasiya ultimately featured in just 12 ODIs, compiling 149 runs. His debut arrived against Sri Lanka in Pune, where he struck 57 runs off 45 deliveries in a contest where Ajay Jadeja pushed the total to 286, but he never took the field during the subsequent World Cup in England.
