Abhishek Sharma shattered the record for the fastest batter to reach 2,000 T20I runs by balls faced during India’s third T20I against the West Indies on October 11, 2026. The left-handed all-rounder achieved the milestone in just 1,024 deliveries, surpassing the previous benchmark by 140 balls while scoring 69 off 30 balls in that innings—including six fours and five sixes—with his half-century falling in just 18 deliveries.
Sharma’s strike rate of 188.77 at the time reflected his explosive consistency, joining an elite group of Indian batters to cross 2,000 T20I runs, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav, after his debut in July 2024 against Zimbabwe.
Suryakumar Yadav previously held the record, reaching 2,000 runs in 1,164 balls during a match against South Africa in December 2023. Aaron Finch, who crossed the mark in 1,283 deliveries against England in September 2020, ranks third.
Sharma’s feat underscores his dominance in the shortest format, solidifying his place among the most prolific T20I batters of his generation.
