Tony Romo learned of his official departure from CBS on Friday morning while he was participating in a pre-qualifying golf tournament in Oklahoma. The former quarterback was attempting to advance through the PGA Tour Q-School stage, ultimately finishing tied for forty-eighth place after missing the cut with a score of plus-nine.
This development follows his recent indefinite leave and subsequent exit from the network, which stemmed from a July arrest in Wisconsin for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Romo had been serving as a lead analyst under a lucrative multiyear agreement signed in 2020, and he is expected to collect a significant portion of the remaining money on that contract.
Meanwhile, J.J. Watt will step in to complete the remainder of the schedule alongside Jim Nantz in the broadcast booth.
