Get startedFormer Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s attempt to qualify for professional golf ended abruptly after he was disqualified from a PGA Tour Q-School pre-qualifying event in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The ruling stemmed from discrepancies on his scorecard for the 16th and 17th holes of his final round on October 2, 2026, where he signed scores of 4 on each hole despite making 5 on both, according to a walking referee and his scorekeeper, Brandon Rice.
PGA Tour officials, including rules official Rob Keller, confirmed the error and disqualified Romo under tournament rules, which prohibit submitting a lower score than actually taken. His disqualification came despite a strong final-round 74, which followed opening rounds of 76 and 75, leaving him 13 strokes behind the leaders after 36 holes.
Even if his final-round score had stood, reports suggested he would have missed the qualifying cutoff by three strokes. The incident also drew attention to pace-of-play concerns, as Romo’s group was placed on a clock during his final round, though the disqualification was tied to the scorecard issue rather than slow play.
The event, held at Forest Ridge from September 30 to October 2, marked the first stage of PGA Tour Q-School, where players compete for advancement opportunities on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour pathway.
