Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg has indicated that the World Test Championship is heading toward a 12-team expansion over the next two years to incorporate nations like Afghanistan and Ireland. Speaking in Durban ahead of an opening Test match against South Africa, Greenberg warned that rising financial pressures and the high costs of maintaining red-ball systems could force difficult choices if revenues do not keep pace.
Additionally, discussions surrounding a proposed World Club Championship for the upcoming future tours programme ultimately stalled after the 'Big Three' nations of India, Australia, and England declined to participate.
