The Cowboys defense needs to lean into Caleb Downs

Following a 28-20 defeat against the New York Giants in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys are re-evaluating their defensive options ahead of a matchup with the Commanders. Safety Malik Hooker sustained an injury during the contest, positioning P.J. Locke as the immediate replacement in a depleted defensive backfield.

First-round rookie Caleb Downs has quickly become a focal point amid the secondary's struggles, having voiced frustration toward team coaches over social media habits and recounting an altercation where opponent Odell Beckham Jr. attempted to strike him.
