
Dallas front office executive Stephen Jones recently discussed the lengthy discussions leading up to the acquisition of cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from Pittsburgh.
Jones acknowledged that the initial demands from the opposing franchise were too steep before ultimately agreeing to a deal involving a future sixth-round and second-round selection.
Management factored in the possibility that the defensive back could depart via free agency once the current campaign concludes. To mitigate that risk, the organization calculated that a future compensatory selection would essentially offset the loss of their second-round draft choice.
