Former Chennai Super Kings manager Stephen Fleming has publicly backed India's leadership group regarding their lineup choices during the fourth fixture of the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. Despite a heavy 87-run loss at the hands of the visitors in Auckland, where Shreyas Iyer captained the side in an already clinched series, Fleming defended the decision to omit youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in favor of a returning Ishan Kishan.
The fifteen-year-old had previously filled in during Kishan's injury absence, contributing a quick four runs in his debut at the third batting position followed by a brisk knock of forty-five runs while opening the innings in Wellington. Fleming argued that maintaining a consistent core and giving athletes clear security allows them to perform without fearing for their spot, noting that Sooryavanshi's time as an established starter will eventually arrive.
