Steelers' Joey Porter Jr. reportedly unlikely to play Sunday amid back injury, contract dispute

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is in jeopardy of missing Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

The defensive back is currently contending with a back problem while also navigating stalled contract extension discussions with the franchise ahead of their looming deadline. Although Porter suggested after Friday's practice session that he intended to suit up, his status was ultimately listed as questionable.

Preparing for the possibility of taking the field without their top corner, Pittsburgh promoted Doneiko Slaughter to bolster their secondary depth. With negotiations remaining unresolved, league chatter has even surfaced regarding whether the front office might consider parting ways with Porter via a trade.
