Spanish club Basket Zaragoza attempting to block Thunder rookie Aday Mara from making NBA debut

Spanish squad Basket Zaragoza is moving to halt the professional debut of rookie center Aday Mara, claiming rights to the 7-foot-3 player for the upcoming season. The organization asserts that a valid agreement remains in effect and has notified basketball governing bodies and the Oklahoma City Thunder that it will withhold the necessary international transfer document unless a financial agreement is reached.

In response, the Thunder organization maintained that the rookie's three seasons of collegiate competition in the United States eliminate the need for any authorization from his former European club. Selected twelfth overall in the 2026 draft, Mara previously competed for the Spanish team between 2021 and 2023 before moving overseas to play collegiately.
