Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham narrowly missed out on the AP Sixth Woman of the Year award despite her efficient 2026 campaign, during which she shot 46 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from beyond the arc while averaging 7.9 points per contest. The honor instead went to Golden State Valkyries forward Janelle Salaun, who delivered a historic year by setting multiple league records for bench production.
Salaun put up 12.7 points and four rebounds per game, while leading all reserves with 509 total points and 27 double-digit scoring performances. The French athlete also established new benchmarks for total three-pointers with 93 and three-point baskets per game at 2.3.
The Valkyries secured the second seed in the standings with a 32-12 record, while the Fever finished sixth at 28-16, potentially setting up a postseason semifinal meeting between the two franchises.
