Tarik Skubal delivered six frames of stellar pitching amid triple-digit heat as the Los Angeles Dodgers opened their National League Division Series with a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. The game-time temperature reached 100 degrees, just shy of the venue record set during the 2017 World Series.
Teoscar Hernández, Kyle Tucker, and Max Muncy provided the power with home runs to back the left-hander, who allowed a single run on two hits while striking out seven.
Atlanta fought back late in the contest when Sean Murphy connected for a 421-foot shot in the sixth inning, and Ozzie Albies launched a 432-foot two-run blast off reliever Tanner Scott in the final frame. However, Evan Phillips managed to secure the final out and earn the save.
Earlier, starter Dylan Dodd held the hosts scoreless through three frames before the Dodgers broke through against the bullpen, setting up a Sunday evening matchup in the ongoing heat wave.
