India’s Shafali Verma has shattered Smriti Mandhana’s record for the most fifty-plus scores by a women’s cricketer in a single calendar year, reaching nine in 2026. The right-handed opener achieved the milestone during the second T20I against Zimbabwe Women at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on October 18, surpassing Mandhana’s previous best of eight set in 2024.
Her standout performance this year included a blistering 100 not out off 49 balls against Bangladesh at the Asian Games on September 20, which pushed her level with Mandhana’s record before she broke it. This follows a trend of rising consistency among India’s top batters, with Mandhana’s 2024 total itself extending Mithali Raj’s six-year-old benchmark of seven fifty-plus scores in 2018.
Hong Kong’s Natasha Miles also recorded six such scores in 2026, placing her third behind Verma and Mandhana’s 2024 tally. The progression highlights the growing competitiveness and dominance of India’s opening pair, now led by Verma as vice-captain.
