Pakistan is preparing for a significant shake-up in its shortest format squad ahead of an upcoming home series against Sri Lanka beginning October 9. Experienced all-rounder Shadab Khan is positioned as the primary candidate to take over leadership duties, which would replace Salman Ali Agha in the role.
Sahibzada Farhan has also been shortlisted and is expected to serve as vice-captain should Shadab be appointed. Head coach Mike Hesson is backing Shadab to steer the side toward the 2028 T20 World Cup, while Agha faces exclusion from both Test and T20 configurations following a slump in form.
Additional adjustments involve Babar Azam receiving another opportunity in the T20 group, alongside the omission of fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf from consideration for the Sri Lanka fixtures.
