Veteran promoter Scott Coker and his new venture, Ki MMA, have formally petitioned the California State Athletic Commission to alter standard fighting regulations. The group wants state officials to approve a rule variance permitting athletes to deliver knee strikes to the head of a grounded opponent, though the proposal explicitly excludes stomps and soccer kicks.
Agency administrator Andy Foster has previously indicated an openness to reconsidering certain linear knee techniques, and the promotion has requested that the commission formally address the topic during its upcoming December stakeholders gathering.
