Saints fall to 0-1 with loss to the Lions

The Detroit Lions narrowly averted an early-season disaster at Ford Field, edging the New Orleans Saints 31-30 in an overtime thriller during Week 1 of the 2026 campaign. Detroit built a commanding 21-0 lead before New Orleans staged a massive second-half resurgence to erase the 21-point deficit.

The visitors had an opportunity to claim the road triumph in the extra period, but an unsuccessful two-point conversion sealed their defeat and pushed their record to 0-1.

Sophomore signal-caller Tyler Shough directed the offense for New Orleans alongside edge rusher Chase Young, who took on expanded responsibility amid injuries across the team's defensive front. Despite their spirited bid to overcome the steep early hole, the Saints were unable to complete the comeback, allowing the host Lions to emerge victorious from the dramatic showdown.
