Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony sat out Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday evening after experiencing renewed pain in his right hand. The twenty-two-year-old outfielder exited the previous night's playoff opener in the sixth inning following a pair of checked swings during a nine-to-zero defeat.
Manager Chad Tracy explained that Anthony had previously missed over one hundred games earlier in the season due to an injury in that same hand. Jahmai Jones took over the leadoff spot and designated hitter role as Boston faced potential elimination, with Sonny Gray starting on the mound.
