The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading into the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers with uncertainty surrounding the status of veteran infielder Miguel Rojas. After aggravating a lower-back issue during a defensive play and an at-bat in the team’s previous series, Rojas underwent medical imaging that showed familiar but manageable concerns.
Though he participated in a light workout—fielding ground balls and taking batting practice—his availability for the NLCS remains undecided. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts emphasized that the team will use every available moment before finalizing their roster, noting Rojas is receiving treatment before the flight to Milwaukee and has another workout ahead.
The decision could impact the bench, as the Dodgers plan to add a 13th pitcher for the seven-game series, potentially removing a position player from the 14-man postseason roster. If Rojas is cleared, utility infielders Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández could step in if needed, while infielder Hyeseong Kim or rookie outfielder Josue De Paula might face roster cuts.
De Paula, in particular, made an impression in the NLDS with a clutch walk in a high-leverage situation, adding another layer to the decision-making process.
Game 1 of the NLCS is scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with the Dodgers aiming to solidify their lineup before then.
Roberts stressed there’s no rush to announce a decision, as Rojas’ condition could evolve with further evaluation. The team’s flexibility will depend on whether Rojas is deemed ready to contribute, even if initially limited to a backup role.
The Brewers await the Dodgers’ final roster moves as the series approaches, with the outcome hinging on both medical assessments and strategic bench adjustments.
