The Republic of Ireland secured a three-goal victory against Israel during a Nations League fixture held at a neutral location in Hungary. Ahead of kickoff, the two squads bypassed traditional pre-match handshakes, while Irish representatives opted to bow their heads during their opponents' national anthem and wore black armbands.
FAI chief executive David Courell explained that the armbands served as a tribute honoring all individuals who have perished in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
Prior to the fixture, the Irish squad voted to move forward with the match on Saturday despite external pressures calling for a cancellation, though goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu ultimately decided to sit out. Heimir Hallgrimsson managed the winning side, which received goals from Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, and Jack Moylan.
Moylan marked his scoring moment by honoring his black armband and team badge, sealing a three-nil triumph.
