Red Sox News & Links: Sonny Gray will pitch next year… not necessarily with Red Sox

Sonny Gray has dismissed retirement rumors, confirming his intention to pitch through the 2027 season with an eye on claiming a championship ring, though whether he stays in Boston remains undecided. Meanwhile, teammate Alex Cora has recently passed on an opportunity to manage the Phillies for the second time within six months as he prepares for a November wedding and navigates an approaching labor stoppage.

Front office executive Craig Breslow acknowledged the difficulty of acquiring right-handed power hitting through trades this winter due to widespread competition. Breslow also addressed the future of catcher Adley Rutschman, noting that internal discussions will determine any potential extension before he hits free agency next year.

Club legend David Ortiz weighed in on the current group as well, asserting that the roster lacks the fierce competitive attitude required for deep postseason runs.
