Mumbai Indians are in the midst of a coaching overhaul ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with several high-profile candidates reportedly turning down the head coach position. Former India captain Rahul Dravid, who led the national team to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and the 2023 ODI World Cup final, has declined the offer, citing a desire to focus on his family and his sons’ cricketing careers.
The decision comes after Dravid stepped down from his role with the Rajasthan Royals before the 2026 season, though he has hinted at a potential return to the IPL in 2028. Similarly, Australian legend Adam Gilchrist and former England captain Eoin Morgan have also rejected the opportunity, leaving Mumbai’s search for a new leader in flux.
With the franchise’s five-time championship pedigree at stake, the team is now exploring alternatives, including Mike Hussey, who recently parted ways with the Chennai Super Kings, and Aaron Finch, though Finch’s discussions with Mumbai remain unclear. Meanwhile, the future of key support staff—including bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey, batting coach Kieron Pollard, and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson—hangs in the balance, as their contracts expire or conclude soon, pending the hiring of a new head coach.
