Tottenham host Aston Villa in an early Premier League battle between struggling sides positioned 17th and 19th in the standings. Despite investing more than £300m during the transfer window, Spurs enter the fixture having failed to win or score across their initial four league outings, while Villa have gathered just one point.

Later in the top flight, table-topping Arsenal aim to preserve their flawless four-game start at high-scoring Brighton, while an injury-depleted Newcastle side, managed by Matthias Jaissle, host Hull at St James' Park seeking to recover from a 4-1 loss at Leeds. In the Championship, leaders West Ham make their first trip to Millwall's ground, The Den, in 14 years.

In cricket, England head to Old Trafford holding an unassailable 2-0 advantage over Sri Lanka in their three-match T20 series, having won 22 of their previous 25 encounters in the format. Harry Brook's side wrapped up the series win in Cardiff with a six-wicket triumph achieved with 47 balls remaining, propelled by Tom Banton's unbeaten 52 from 24 deliveries.

The match also saw Jos Buttler become the inaugural batter to amass 15,000 career runs in T20 cricket, building on Brook's earlier unbeaten 114 off 49 balls in the series opener at Southampton.
