Closing out their pre-season schedule with a pair of victories, the Pittsburgh franchise managed a three-to-one triumph against Buffalo to finish exhibition play even at two wins and two losses. Netminder Arturs Silovs rebounded from a previous difficult outing by stopping twenty-four of twenty-five shots, while Sidney Crosby, Ville Koivunen, and Nick Robertson provided the scoring for the victors.
After Crosby opened the scoring in the opening period via a feed from Tommy Novak and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen allowed a second tally to Koivunen shortly after, Pittsburgh successfully navigated a pair of overturned goals due to challenges on the ice. Ryan McLeod later found the back of the net for the opponents during the final frame before Robertson secured the victory with an empty-net conversion assisted by Trevor van Riemsdyk and Rickard Rakell.
