Positives and negatives from USC’s 41-27 home loss to Oregon

USC suffered a 41-27 defeat at home against Oregon over the weekend, pushing the team's record down to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten competition. Despite the disappointing outcome, quarterback Jayden Maiava put together a strong performance with 326 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and an additional rushing score, while freshman receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt hauled in seven catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.

However, head coach Lincoln Riley faced heavy criticism for failing to deliver in a major contest, and defensive coordinator Gary Patterson saw his unit concede two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Additionally, defensive player Desman Stephens II received a one-week suspension from the school following an inappropriate celebration near injured opposing quarterback Dante Moore, leaving the program facing troubling questions about its long-term trajectory.
