Pleasant surprises of the NFL season so far: Brock Purdy for MVP and actual Raiders competence

The ongoing NFL campaign has delivered several unexpected storylines, highlighted by stellar play from quarterbacks across the league. San Francisco signal-caller Brock Purdy has powered his squad to a three-win start despite mounting injuries, putting together an elite passing resume with nine touchdowns and zero sacks.

Backup contributors have also stepped up following injuries to starters, most notably Seattle reserve Drew Lock. After taking over when Sam Darnold exited the opener, Lock posted strong passing metrics across two victories before his teammate returned to action.
