West Indies head coach Daren Sammy admitted that a recent twenty-five percent decrease in men player retainer salaries damaged squad morale right before their series against India. The board implemented these salary reductions to address significant financial deficits, following a twenty-eight million dollar net loss in the previous financial cycle and a projected twenty-six million dollar deficit ahead.
Speaking ahead of the final fixture, Sammy mentioned that he encouraged his athletes to utilize the matches against the top-ranked opponent as an opportunity to build personal and team leverage.
Despite dropping the results in the matches, Sammy pointed to encouraging signs, highlighting that four different batters registered centuries across the opening pair of fixtures. He also praised the squad's aggressive intent and ability to rotate the strike when facing spin bowling.
However, the head coach acknowledged that the bowling attack must improve its discipline regarding lines and lengths when surfaces offer no natural assistance.
